I'm New Here
When You Visit
Visiting a new church can be intimidating: What should I wear? Where do I park? Where do my kids go?
We understand the many thoughts that can come from visiting a new church, so we want you to feel completely comfortable when you visit. Below are some frequently asked questions. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to contact us or talk with an usher when you visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
When are services?
You can find our service schedule here.
Where is Holy Family located?
Holy Family Catholic Church is located at 129 W. Daisy Lane, New Albany, IN 47150.
What should I wear?
The appropriate dress code for Holy Catholic Mass is modest and respectful. This means covering the shoulders and knees, and avoiding revealing clothing. Show Jesus that he is important to you by wearing your best, but for daily Mass in the middle of the day, come as you are; just please be modest and reverent as we come to celebrate and encounter God
Am I expected to put money in the offering?
If you are visiting with us, we don't expect you to put money into the offering, and you are welcome to just let it pass you by. If you consider our parish your church home, we'd love for you to prayerfully consider giving to our parish on a weekly basis. You can give by check or cash during Mass, or you can sign up for online giving here.
Do you have a separate "Crying Room" for those with young children?
Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.” How will children learn how to participate in the Mass if we don’t bring them to it?
At Holy Family, we welcome families—wiggles and all! While we do not have a nursery or a designated “crying room,” we invite you to join us in the church and worship together as a community.
Fr. Jeremy doesn’t mind the sounds of children during Mass—in fact, he encourages and welcomes parents to remain in the church with their little ones. The presence (and occasional noise!) of children is a beautiful reminder that our parish is growing.
If your child has a moment that becomes very disruptive, please know there are areas of the church where you can still hear everything happening in the Mass through the speakers. One is the lobby area on the St Joseph side nearest the cafeteria. The other is the main Daisy Lane Vestibule at the back of the church.
We encourage you to return to your seat in the church as soon as your little one is settled. Thank you for helping us make Holy Family a place where all feel welcome—especially our youngest parishioners!
I cannot walk up for Communion, how do I obtain assistance?
Please sit in the front two pews on either side of the church. Those pews have cushions to make it a little more comfortable. The ministers will bring Holy Communion to you there. The Ushers at the doorways when you enter can help direct you to these locations.
I’m not Catholic, how do I know when to sit, stand and kneel?
There’s no need to be self-conscious about the postures and responses used during worship. If you are unable to stand/kneel, you may simply be seated.
Most visitors just follow the lead of our parishioners. However, you can access a worship aid here.
I am not Catholic, is it okay for me to participate in Communion?
At Holy Family, we’re so glad you’re here, and we warmly welcome you to worship with us.
During the celebration of the Eucharist, Catholics receive Holy Communion as a sign of our unity in faith, life, and worship. Because we believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and that Communion is a visible expression of full unity in the Church, we ask that only practicing Catholics who are properly disposed receive the Body and Blood of Christ.
However, those who are not Catholic are still welcome to come forward during Communion to receive a blessing. To do so, simply walk up with the Communion line and cross your arms over your chest. This gesture lets the priest or Eucharistic Minister know that you would like to receive a blessing instead of the Eucharist.
We hope you feel at home here. Thank you for joining us, and please know you are always welcome at Holy Family!
How can I become Catholic?
Are you interested in becoming a member of the Catholic Church? Do you have questions about the Catholic faith? Were you baptized Catholic as a child, but have not celebrated the Sacraments of Confirmation and the Eucharist? OCIA (the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) is a program designed for people just like you. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Kristina Seipel!
